It took all day -- and much of the night -- but Penguins general manager Ray Shero reached contract agreements with two veteran free agents, defenseman Darryl Sydor and right winger Petr Sykora.
Both were unrestricted and accepted two-year contracts. Financial terms were not immediately available, although Sydor's deal reportedly is worth $5 million.
The Penguins also re-signed defenseman Rob Scuderi to a two-year contract. It is worth $700,000 in 2007-08, $725,000 the following season.
Scuderi, 28, became an unrestricted free agent yesterday, but opted to stick with the only NHL organization to which he has ever belonged.
He had one goal and 10 assists in 78 games last season, and logged extensive ice time killing penalties. At the moment, he appears to project as the No. 7 defenseman on the Penguins' depth chart.
Sydor, 35, had five goals and 16 assists in 74 games with Dallas last season. He no longer is the offensive force he was earlier in his career, but could land a spot on the Penguins' No. 2 power-play unit.
Sykora, 30, is coming off a 22-goal, 31-assist season in Edmonton. He is fast and skilled, but suspect defensively.
