On a recent 50-mile bus tour through rural Somerset County, 30 women from the Paradise United Methodist Church learned about some heroes of the 21st century.

The women paused reverently at the temporary memorial to the passengers of Flight 93 in Stony Creek Township. They also saw the land where the jet crashed after its crew and passengers fought valiantly to thwart the terrorists who hijacked the plane on Sept. 11, 2001.

The women prayed and sang in the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel, which was built to honor the faith of those brave passengers. And, at the end of the day, they heard Lori Arnold tell the story of the Quecreek Mine Rescue, a three-day effort that resulted in a triumphant rescue of nine trapped men.
