McBean, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive end from Oklahoma State, was one of two fourth-round picks for the Steelers. He joins fellow fourth-rounder Daniel Sepulveda, a punter from Baylor, and fifth-round pick Cameron Stephenson, an offensive lineman from Rutgers, as the other signed draft picks.
"Given our strong and positive history with the Steelers, this contract was designed to assure Ryan would not miss any of training camp," McBean's agent Peter Schaeffer said.
Schaeffer and the Steelers did not disclose the terms of the deal.
McBean played defensive tackle and defensive end at Oklahoma State, starting 23 games in his final two seasons with the Cowboys. He finished his career with 62 tackles and had 71/2 sacks.
Five draft picks remain unsigned, including first-round selection Lawrence Timmons.
