Brewers 7, Royals 1: Corey Hart had three hits and scored two runs to help Milwaukee beat visiting Kansas City for its fifth consecutive win. Hart went 3 for 3 and is batting .422 (19 for 45) in his past 10 games with five homers and 14 RBIs.

Giants 6, Yankees 5: Rookie Nate Schierholtz ended San Francisco's season-long eight-game losing streak with a two-out RBI single in the 13th inning, giving the Giants the victory against visiting New York. The Giants had to rally from an early three-run deficit and overcome Alex Rodriguez's tying home run in the ninth.

Twins 11, Marlins 1: Joe Mauer and Jason Bartlett drove in three runs apiece, and Minnesota totaled 17 hits to beat Florida at Dolphin Stadium. Mauer hit a two-run double in the sixth, and Jason Kubel singled home a run to make the score 10-1.

Mets 1, Athletics 0: David Wright dropped an RBI double in front of diving right fielder Travis Buck in the ninth inning, giving New York the victory against visiting Oakland.

Devil Rays 4, Dodgers 3: Dioner Navarro hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh inning as Tampa Bay beat visiting Los Angeles.

Indians 4, Nationals 3: Victor Martinez hit a three-run homer to straightaway center field in the top of the ninth, and Cleveland ended the game with a double play against Washington at RFK Stadium.

Cubs 2, White Sox 1: Ryan Theriot's suicide squeeze against Bobby Jenks in the ninth inning drove in the go-ahead run and lifted the Cubs past the struggling White Sox U.S. Cellular Field.

Tigers 2, Braves 1: Justin Verlander pitched seven innings to win his fourth consecutive start as Detroit beat light-hitting Atlanta at Turner Field, leading frustrated Braves manager Bobby Cox to pick up a record-tying ejection. Cox was thrown out of the game, 131 for his career, tying the record set by John McGraw.

Rangers 7, Astros 2: Jamey Wright overcame shaky control to win for the first time in a year, and Michael Young had four RBIs to lead host Texas past Houston.

Blue Jays 11, Rockies 6: Frank Thomas hit his 498th career home run, Matt Stairs matched a career high with four hits as Toronto beat Colorado at the Rogers Centre.

Padres 6, Red Sox 1: Chris Young pitched one-hit ball for seven innings, Khalil Greene homered twice off Tim Wakefield and Josh Bard hit a contested homer to lead host San Diego past Boston.

Mariners 9, Reds 1: Raul Ibanez hit his fourth career grand slam in the first, Jarrod Washburn took a shutout into the eighth, and host Seattle beat Cincinnati.

Diamondbacks 7, Orioles 4: Eric Byrnes homered and host Arizona rallied from four runs down to beat Baltimore.

National league

Cardinals 8, Phillies 3: Juan Encarnacion and Chris Duncan homered, Adam Wainwright pitched six sharp innings as the Cardinals defeated Philadelphia to stop the Phillies' six-game winning streak in St. Louis.
