The fifth Relay for Life of Pittsburgh West starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. Teams of eight to 15 members will walk and jog on the high school track for an overnight relay against cancer.

New this year is a craft fair featuring crystal jewelry, floral wreaths and swags, home entertainment products, handmade afghans, custom airbrushed tattoos and personalized T-shirts.

The high school pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. for swimmers at a cost of $2.

The event also will feature a ceremony at dusk when hundreds of luminaria will be lighted around the track in honor of cancer survivors or in memory of those who have lost their life to cancer.

At midnight, an outdoor Mass will be said by the Rev. Joseph Luisi, of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Family movies will be shown on a giant screen and a bonfire will be lighted from 1 to 5 a.m.

Money for cancer research will be raised through the sale of food, luminaria, $10, admission to the pool, $2, the auction and raffle, and preregistered teams of students, families and groups who have solicited sponsors to support laps around the track.

There will be food booths and local bands.
