Pitt-Greensburg junior Mark Lombardi, a Fox Chapel Area High School graduate, was voted to the first team of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference baseball all-star team.
Lombardi, a designated hitter, finished among the top five in the conference with a .415 batting average.
Lombardi also tied for the team lead with 31 RBIs and slugged 10 doubles and two home runs.
He finished the season with 44 hits and 18 runs scored.
NA grad places in Big Ten
North Allegheny High School graduate Kim Markel placed third in the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight year at the Big Ten Conference track championships.
Markel, a senior at Penn State, recorded a time of 58.77, while teammate Aleesha Barber won with a school record time of 57.56. Markel also finished fourth in 2004 and fifth in 2005.
Shaler grad cited
Shaler Area graduate Maureen Bailey was named to the first team of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball all-star team.
Bailey, a senior outfielder, was also named to the second team of the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association all-Great Lakes Region team.
Bailey hit a team-high .385 with 18 runs scored.
Shaler grad is All-PAC
Shaler graduate Ray Mertz was named All-PAC in baseball.
Mertz, a junior catcher at Grove City College, was voted to the second team after being chosen on the first team last year. He had a .349 average with 15 runs scored and 27 RBIs.
