Pitt gets two from WPIAL
Tuesday, June 19, 2007

The Pitt football team has landed two recruits from the WPIAL. Clairton defensive back Manny Williams (6-1, 200) made a verbal commitment to the Panthers yesterday; Greensburg Central Catholic defensive back Chris Hayden-Martin chose Pitt Saturday.

Pitt made a scholarship offer to Williams after seeing him at the Panthers' summer camp Friday.

"I think they'll probably play me at safety, but I might grow into a linebacker," Williams said.

Williams also had scholarship offers from Buffalo, Akron and Eastern Michigan.

Hayden-Martin (6-1, 190) turned out to be fairly heavily recruited -- mainly because of his performance at the Elite Combine in April in New Jersey. Before the combine, Hayden-Martin had scholarship offers from only Akron and Toledo.

"In the next few weeks, he went from two scholarships, to 10, to 15, to 28," said Greensburg Central Catholic coach Muzzy Colosimo.

Boston College and Connecticut were Hayden-Martin's other top choices, but he also had offers from Alabama, Louisville, South Carolina and Syracuse.

"He could play corner or free safety, but he's everything you would want in a corner," Colosimo said. "He has great speed, he can jump and he's physical. He doesn't have a lot of weaknesses."
