Penn State students re-sell football tickets online
Monday, June 18, 2007

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Some Penn State students are seeking big bucks for their football tickets online, less than two weeks after student tickets sold out in under an hour.

One set of season tickets in the junior year student seating area was recently being sold for $1,175 on one Web site. In another case, tickets were given away "free" with the purchase of a $1,500 Penn State hat -- a tactic used to skirt resale laws.

Student tickets are $190 at face value.

More than 21,000 Penn State football student season tickets were sold June 7 in 59 minutes, marking the quickest sellout in the program's history.

The sellout shattered the old mark of 13 days set last year, when tickets were sold online and through the mail. Penn State switched to an all-online system this year.

The ticket policy had angered students last month after the athletic department announced plans to switch to a lottery system. Students rallied in front of an administration building, and the school returned to the current first-come, first served ticket policy the next day.
