West Allegheny graduate Josh Ghaly claimed his second Northeast Conference gold medal at the NEC track and field championships.
Ghaly, a senior at Robert Morris University, won the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet, 1 inch. Ghaly tied with teammate Anthony Trunzo, as both had vaults of 14-9. Ghaly won the title, clearing 15-1 in the vault-off.
Ghaly picked up his first NEC gold medal during the indoor season with a leap of 15-5.
Ghaly did not fair as well at the ECAC Championships, as he failed on all three opening jumps of 16-11/4.
On the women's side, Beaver Falls graduate Brittany Humphress earned a silver medal at the Northeast Conference championships.
Humphress, a senior at Robert Morris, placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 37-83/4, only two inches behind the champion Heather Patton of Long Island University.
Langley grad honored
Langley High School graduate Eric Wadowsky was named to the Division III Rawlings/ABCA Baseball All-Mideast Region all-star team.
Wadowsky, a junior pitcher at Thiel College, was voted to the second team.
Wadowsky concluded the season with a school best 8-3 record to go along with a 2.08 earned run average. His eight wins were the most in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and his ERA was the second-best in the conference.
He was also second in the conference in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts.
He is currently third on the Tomcats' all-time victories list with a career record of 16-7 with a 3.14 ERA.
Bair runs at NCAA meet
Shaler Area graduate Sam Bair competed in the NCAA Division I track championships for the University of Pittsburgh.
Bair finished 10th in his heat of the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:47.25, placing him 21st overall.
