Vegetable oil into gas tanks
Eat'n Park subsidiary Parkhurst Dining Services plans to recycle vegetable oil used in its corporate and campus dining rooms into biodiesel fuel for company-owned vehicles. A third-party processor will split the resulting fuel between the Homestead company and farmers who supply it.

Hiring plans grow dimmer
Only 29 percent of companies expect to add new positions in the next three months, which is typically the best time of the year for hiring, according to a survey of 14,000 employers being released today. The survey by global staffing company Manpower Inc. also showed 7 percent of companies said they expect to reduce employment. In the same quarter last year, a larger 31 percent of employers predicted they'd increase hiring and a smaller 6 percent expected a decrease.

Protesters to greet Eagle
A group trying for union representation at a Canadian warehouse that serves American Eagle Outfitters, as well as other retailers, is planning a rally in New York City today timed to coincide with the Marshall retailer's annual shareholders meeting there. American Eagle sold the warehouse last year to a third-party operator. A company spokeswoman said recently the matter is before a Canadian labor relations agency. The protesters hope to start a boycott of the retailer's goods.

From one retailer to another
Michael F. Hines, who resigned earlier this year from his position as chief financial officer of Findlay-based Dick's Sporting Goods, has been elected to the board of off-price retailer TJX Companies. The Framingham, Mass., retailer operates the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and A.J. Wright chains, as well as 35 Bob's Stores selling sporting goods. A few years ago, TJX outbid Dick's for the assets of the then-bankrupt Bob's chain.
