The Carnegie Science Center yesterday reported progress but still no final agreement with Don Barden on issues related to his North Shore casino.
In a statement, Director Joanna Haas said the science center has made "some progress" in its discussions with Mr. Barden, but still had not been able to work out details involving the width, configuration and public access for a new entrance way for buses. The science center considers the bus access crucial to its continuing operation. The casino will eliminate the current access point.
"We still do not consider the bus access plan that ... both parties have agreed to in concept to be fully viable, particularly because it assumes installation of a traffic light that requires regulatory approval," she said.
Ms. Haas said the science center and Mr. Barden haven't agreed to performance standards for casino lighting to prevent interference with the center's observatory.
Bob Oltmanns, Mr. Barden's spokesman, agreed that progress had been made but added there was still work left to do.
"We still don't have a final agreement. We still have an issue or two to resolve," he said.
