Limits approved on South Side liquor licenses
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

The city Planning Commission has approved a measure that would limit the number of liquor licenses on the South Side.

The commission today said there could only be one liquor license for every 50,000 square feet in local neighborhood commercial districts greater than 2 million square feet.

The Carson Street district would be limited to 53 licenses; it currently has 57.

The measure would also apply to the Lawrenceville and East Liberty commercial districts, but both of those are well below the number allowed.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
