The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:

'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End'

Rated: PG-13.

Suitable for: 8- or 9-year-olds and up.

What you should know: This runs 2 hours and 47 minutes, which makes it about 15 minutes longer than the second movie. It's also more serious. It opens with a series of people being hanged (although you see their feet swinging, not their faces), and one of the main characters comes into harm's way in a manner not seen before.

Language: Almost no salty language, surprisingly.

Sexual situations and nudity: Kissing, flirting and the bartering of a woman, who will have none of it.

Violence/scary situations: This is where the movie earns its rating. There are hangings, brawls, explosions, stabbings, cannonfire, swordfights, Davy Jones and his wriggling tentacled beard along with his enslaved crew who are part men, part creatures of the sea.

Drug or alcohol use: A touch of rum may be consumed but nowhere near as much as in the previous movie.

'Waitress'

Rated: PG-13.

Suitable for: Teens and older.

What you should know: "Felicity" star Keri Russell plays a Southern diner waitress who unexpectedly finds herself pregnant, falls for her doctor, tries to escape from her controlling husband and bakes fabulous pies, which she names after the events and emotions of her life.

Language: One f-word and other, less harsh four-letter curses.

Sexual situations and nudity: A couple, having an affair, passionately kiss and clench, and a woman is shown having labor pains.

Violence/scary situations: A man treats his wife in a controlling manner and pushes her at one point.

Drug or alcohol use: Adults drink beer or wine and a reference is made to a drunken night that resulted in a pregnancy.
