Conneaut Lake Park will not open this season.
The 115-year-old amusement park in Crawford County is about $2 million in debt and prohibited from borrowing more money. Park managers sought a six-figure gift to launch the season, but nobody was willing to put up the money.
Memorial Day Weekend traditionally was the kickoff of the park's three-month season. A series of concerts booked for this weekend also has been canceled by the park's managers.
The park is a nonprofit community enterprise whose business operations are overseen by a common pleas court judge. It has struggled to open in each of the past three years.
Its history under private owners also was shaky. The park was closed in 1995 and part of 1996 after a private owner went bankrupt.
