Dowd picks up 10 votes against Bodack
Monday, May 21, 2007

The Allegheny County Elections Division added 14 previously uncounted votes to the tally in the close Democratic Primary race between Pittsburgh Councilman Len Bodack and his challenger, school board member Patrick Dowd, today. The emergency ballots and previously uncounted absentee ballots boosted Mr. Dowd's lead from 82 votes to 92 votes.

In a press release, Mr. Dowd's campaign said a concession by Mr. Bodack was "inevitable" and called for an end to "any unnecessary delays."

Mr. Bodack has previously said he will await final certification of the vote count, which must occur by June 4. He was not immediately available for comment.

Elections Division staff said they hope to issue a preliminary result by week's end. Then, any party has five days to challenge the result. Staff said it was unlikely that the preliminary count will be significantly different from today's tally.
