SPECIAL NOTES
Duquesne Heights Incline -- The historic inclined plane operated by the nonprofit Society for the Preservation of the Duquesne Heights Incline is 130 years old today. It opened on May 20, 1877. A permanent display will be unveiled today depicting a time-line of significant world and national events between 1877 and 2007.
INTERSTATES
I-70, Belle Vernon -- Overnight work on the Monongahela River bridge between Washington and Westmoreland counties, reducing traffic to one lane 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
I-70/79 South Junction, Washington County -- Detour in place for paving that will last through July, including the I-79/Route 40 interchange. No work will take place over Memorial Day, but starting May 29, PennDOT will close the ramp from I-79 northbound to I-70 westbound, 6 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday through Friday only. A detour will be posted during the overnight closings.
I-79, Allegheny County -- Two-year reconstruction covers 6.6 miles between the Ohio River and the I-279 split at Franklin Park. Two lanes of southbound traffic; one "express lane" and one "local lane" for northbound traffic.
A southbound lane is closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the Parkway West interchange.
I-79, Greene County -- Single lane each direction around Waynesburg during paving to fix longwall mining subsidence.
I-376, Parkway East -- Four-mile upgrade between Oakland and Edgewood-Swissvale. Inbound work only this weekend; all outbound lanes are open. Work doesn't start until 8 p.m. weekdays but goes round the clock on weekends. Delays especially Saturday. The inbound ramps from Beechwood Boulevard and Forward Avenue also closed this weekend.
I-279, Parkway West -- Shoulders closed where PennDOT is widening the road west of I-79.
STATE HIGHWAYS
Route 22, Indiana County -- Contractor removing shoulders on existing highway and building connections to the new highway on Penn View Mountain. Speed limit reduced to 40 mph.
Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Single-lane traffic from Route 981, New Alexandria, east to Route 982. Delays. One lane each way east of Murrysville for reconstruction.
Route 28 -- Two lanes now open southbound in 7-mile work zone through part of O'Hara, Harmar, Springdale, Frazer and East Deer. Northbound traffic is shifted to the inside "passing lane."
Route 30, Westmoreland County -- Traffic restricted 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weekdays through September while 1.8 miles are milled and paved from Hempfield Pointe to east of Greengate Road in Hempfield.
Route 31, Westmoreland County -- One lane in each direction during reconstruction of "Three Mile Hill" east of Mount Pleasant.
OTHER ROADS
Boulevard of Allies, Oakland -- New "gateway interchange" project where boulevard meets Forbes and Fifth avenues. Short single-lane restrictions, but few to minor delays reported.
East Ohio Street -- Temporary lane closures 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through mid-July while crews do geotechnical drilling between North Side and Millvale.
McKnight Road, Ross -- Resurfacing at I-279/McKnight Road interchange. Single-lane closures 9 a.m.-7 p.m. daily have shifted to the inside "passing lanes." June completion.
West Liberty Avenue/Route 19, Pittsburgh -- One lane each way 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and 10 p.m.-5 a.m. for South Busway ramp repairs near the Route 51 interchange and Liberty Tunnels.
MAJOR BRIDGES
31st Street Bridge, Pittsburgh -- Closed. Fall completion.
Homestead Grays Bridge -- Traffic shifted to the upstream lanes, one in each direction. Mid-June completion date for deck and sidewalk work, but painting will last through summer.
PORT AUTHORITY
Palm Garden Bridge -- Span crossing Route 51 that's part of South Busway is closed for repairs. Bus and light-rail detours in effect, shuttles supplementing service.
