Pittsburgh boaters are reminded that the "No Wake" zone is in effect from the Ninth Street Bridge on the Allegheny River to the West End Bridge on the Ohio River to the Fort Pitt Bridge on the Monongahela River. Lake Erie and tributaries: The nighttime walleyes are hitting at the mouths of the creeks when conditions are right. Some smallmouth bass are being landed on Elk Creek. Presque Isle Bay is yielding bass, panfish and sporadic perch off the cribs. A few perch are coming in 35 feet of water off Trout Run, but the bite is not "on" yet. Smallmouth in the lake have been sluggish, too, as water temperatures remain colder than normal. Poor Richard's suggests targeting shallow water -- under 10 feet -- in the rocky structure from Hammermill to Twenty Mile. Scott Kanagy leads the May walleye contest sponsored by Shad Lure Bait and Tackle in Elizabeth with a 7 pounder he caught on Lake Erie Tuesday.
Allegheny River/Allegheny Reservoir (Warren County): Mike Chisamore of West Point, Pa., released a 41-inch muskie in the river on a Red Childress guide trip. Walleyes 17 to 20 inches are hitting on worm harnesses in 14 to 22 feet in the lake and river. Northern pike up to 27 inches are being released on Rapalas. The perch and crappie bites have been slower than expected. Trout have been hit or miss from the tailwaters of the Kinzua Dam to the town of Starbrick.
Allegheny River (Armstrong County): The good smallmouth bass bite continues with anglers releasing big numbers in the waters around East Brady.
Shenango Reservoir/Shenango River (Mercer County): Crappies were feeding heavily last weekend. On Tuesday, Bob Lockhart Jr. of Robinson landed crappies up 15 1/2 inches, 1-pound, 1-ounce. A few crappie anglers landed walleyes up to 24 inches, though sub-legals have been hitting, too. Northern pike are running small. The hybrid striper bite shut down with the cool weather mid-week. Anglers are catching trout and walleyes in the river.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Crappies are hitting in the shallows around much of the lake. Chuck Sorg of Fredonia, Pa., caught a 14 1/2-inch, 1-pound, 12-ounce crappie on a minnow. Bob Caszatt of Clarks Mills caught a 13 1/2-inch, 1-pound, 6-ounce crappie on a gray Twister tail. Anglers report decent walleye catches while trolling. Wayne Ward of Hadley shot three carp, from 24 inches, 5 1/2 pounds to 29 inches, 10 pounds, with a bow at Launch No. 3. Skip Feigert and Steve Feigert of Hermitage released 21 bass from 13 inches to 19 1/2 inches, 3 1/2 pounds while trolling Hot-n-Tots for walleyes.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): The Keystone Bass Buddy Circuit reported record results Saturday. Out of 137 boats, 78 teams limited out. A total of 653 bass (533 largemouths and 120 smallmouths) weighing 1,277 pounds were released. Rich Lewis and Jim Lunsford of Washington, Pa., won the tournament with seven fish (minimum 13 inches) totaling 21.38 pounds. Rich Conlon of Wexford released the lunker, a 5.66-pound largemouth. Crappies, including many slabs, nice size walleyes and big numbers of muskies are being caught all over the lake, often in shallow water.
Woodcock Creek Lake (Crawford County): Patty Schmitt and Eleanor Puchta of Reserve released 11 muskies under 40 inches on a Howard Wagner guide trip Sunday. Other anglers are catching walleyes.
Oil Creek, Sugar Creek (Venango County): Good conditions were reported yesterday. The Green Caddis hatch is profuse. March Browns, Gray Foxes and Light Cahills have started and should continue to get better. Fish are good quality and size this year. For more, visit www.oilcreekoutfitters.com .
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Valerie Raehn of Pittsburgh caught a 13-inch, 1-pound, 4-ounce crappie last weekend. Other anglers are catching nice numbers of crappies. Anglers are releasing pike 30 to 33 inches. Catfish also are hitting.
Allegheny River (Allegheny County): Highlights from the Venture Outdoors Downtown Tri-Anglers' Wednesday outing on the North Shore include: a 24-inch smallmouth buffalo and a 19-inch red tail sucker released by John Force of the North Side; three catfish including a 241/2-inch channel cat released by Tom Lippert of Spring Garden; a 101/2-inch rock bass released by Tim Brozewicz of Spring Garden; and a 21-inch carp released by Marty Sanders of Overbrook. Walleyes in various sizes are being caught at Lock No. 3 and Highland Park.
Ohio River: Alvin Alford of East Liverpool, Ohio, won Saturday's Chester-Newell Catfish tournament, which runs every other weekend through the summer. Alford's cat measured 38 inches. Ron Simon of Columbiana, Ohio, was second with a 32 incher. For more on the tournament, call 304-387-3982.
Montour Run (Allegheny County): A private stocking of some 150 trout went into the creek yesterday morning.
Connoquenessing Creek (Butler County): Matt Weber of Ellwood City released a 51-inch, 41-pound muskie on a Crane bait Wednesday evening.
Monongahela River: Anglers are catching smallmouth bass, catfish up to 20 pounds, walleyes and saugers. Saugers are hitting at Brownsville.
Turtle Creek (Allegheny County): Tom Popies of Monroeville landed a 23-inch, 5-pound brown trout on Powerbait May 4.
Youghiogheny Reservoir (Fayette County): Out of 61 boats, just three teams limited out in the Yough Walleye Association's spring invitational tournament Saturday, but the winning weight was a six-fish limit of 22-plus pounds. The lunker was 8.29 pounds. A number of largemouth bass were released.
Dunlap Creek Lake (Fayette County): Both the state and the Dunlap Creek Co-Op Association stocked this popular impoundment last weekend with larger, quality trout. Fishing pressure was high.
Burrell Lake (Westmoreland County): Amber Schreckengost of Sarver caught 15 bass, 7 crappies and 8 sunfish Saturday. Brady Benning of Latrobe landed 18 bluegills and a mud puppy. Frieda Deer of Swissvale caught three catfish, 15 to 28 inches.
