Chihuly at Phipps

In daylight it was dazzling, but at night the glass created by Dale Chihuly came alive. The renowned glass artist flew in for the opening of his exhibit, "Gardens & Glass," at Phipps Conservatory on Wednesday evening. The gala was the first major event of Pittsburgh Celebrates Glass 2007, the city-wide, year-long collaborative effort to recognize Pittsburgh's rich glass heritage. The Chihuly exhibition, his eighth major installation in the world, continues through Nov. 11 at Phipps. More than 700 guests got a sneak peek, complete with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and a chance to meet Chihuly during the patron party. Bev Elliott and Suzy Broadhurst chaired the evening.
