PAIGE McMENAMIN

SCHOOL: Peters Township.

WHO IS SHE? One of the top lacrosse players in the WPIAL.

THE PAST WEEK: McMenamin has led the Indians to records of 16-1 overall, 8-0 in WPIAL Division III. They defeated Mt. Lebanon, 11-10, in overtime Tuesday to extend their division lead over the Blue Devils (6-2).

Mt. Lebanon defeated the Indians in the past two WPIAL finals. Peters and Mt. Lebanon are ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the state by laxpower.com, a national Web site.

CAREER: This is McMenamin's fourth varsity season. She usually is a center who takes draws, but she also plays elsewhere in the middle and sometimes as an attacker.

The organization U.S. Lacrosse named her an All-American and Academic All-American last year.

TEAM PLAYER: Don't ask McMenamin about personal accomplishments. She isn't familiar with them.

"I try not to get overwhelmed by individual statistics," she said. "They kind of take away from the focus of the game. I want to be a team player. I like to set up plays."

A PIONEER OF SORTS: McMenamin plays a second sport, field hockey in the fall. She has been on the team during its two years of existence.

FUTURE: A top-notch student, McMenamin has accepted a partial scholarship to play at Northwestern. Although the Wildcats are two-time defending NCAA Division I champions, she chose that Big Ten university primarily for academic reasons. (Ivy League schools Brown and Cornell were her other top choices.)

"I had always been taught by club coaches to pick a school where you really want to go because you could get injured in a sport," McMenamin said. "Northwestern has my major, communications. They have everything I want academically plus great athletics."

DAN AND ADAM BEEBE

SCHOOL: Seneca Valley.

WHO ARE THEY? Fraternal twin brothers who have helped the Seneca Valley boys' volleyball team reach unprecedented heights this season.

IT'S A FIRST: The Beebes, who are seniors, helped Seneca Valley defeat perennial power North Allegheny, 3-0, last Thursday. On Tuesday, Seneca Valley knocked off Butler, 3-0. The wins gave Seneca Valley a share of the WPIAL Class AAA Section 2 championship with North Allegheny and Shaler. It is the first section title for Seneca Valley, which has competed in the sport for only six seasons. The volleyball playoffs start next week.

Seneca Valley is the No. 2-ranked WPIAL Class AAA team.

ALL-STAR MATERIAL: Dan Beebe was selected by the coaches as a second-team all-WPIAL selection last season. Adam was a third-team pick.

DIFFERENT ROLES: The Beebes have been starters since their sophomore years, but have vastly different roles. Adam is a 6-foot-2 hitter; Dan is a 6-foot setter.

"Dan was a lot smaller when he was younger. He had better hands," said Seneca Valley coach Jeff Beavers. "Adam was a lot bulkier. He looks stronger."

FAMILY FEUD: While the Beebes have proven to be a potent one-two punch, they have been known to get into a few brotherly spats.

"There are some pros and cons to playing with your brother. There are a lot of family quarrels on the court," Beavers said, with a laugh. "I try to stay away from those. But they know each other so well that it helps them out a lot, too."

THE FUTURE: The Beebes will attend IUP and hope to play volleyball there.
