Luma, an established Aspinwall restaurant, has opened its second Pittsburgh location at 186 Castle Shannon Blvd.
Owners Greg Ackerman and Michael Rudman oversaw a complete renovation of the 2,300 square-foot space. Creating Luma's signature patio was a priority. The pair removed the property's back wall, installed a picture window overlooking a patio, which is designed to be enclosed and heated during winter.
"Luma is very patio driven, we really hang our hat on that. We had to have the ability to do al fresco dining," Mr. Ackerman said.
"We put substantial work, over $400,000, into its build-out," Mr. Ackerman said. Luma's decor features colored LED lighting, a slate foyer and ornamental artwork.
Mr. Ackerman, of Upper St. Clair, said that a large percentage of Luma's Aspinwall customer base lives in Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair.
"It's a great demographic. We always wanted to open one in the South Hills. We really like the charm and look.''
Mr. Ackerman also said he looks forward to Luma's role within the area's burgeoning restaurant market. We knew we had to raise the bar to compete,'' he said.
