Two University of Pittsburgh athletes who are graduates of PG North-area high schools earned all-Big East honors at the conference track and field championship meet this past weekend in Storrs, Conn.

Hampton High School graduate Julianna Reed, a senior, placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.7.

Reed was also a member of the 1,600-meter relay team, which placed fourth with a time of 3:44.12.

Meanwhile, Shaler Area graduate Sam Bair, a junior, placed third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:50.58. Bair ran a time of 3:42.36 earlier this season.

Bair also was a member of the 3,200-meter relay team, which placed eighth with a time of 7:42.83.

Fox Chapel grad wins 3 medals

Fox Chapel Area High School graduate Rebecca Aiken was a three-time place-winner at the North Coast Athletic Conference track and field championships last weekend.

Aiken, a junior, placed third in the 400-meter dash, running a personal-best time of 1:00.72, then finished fifth in the 200 (27.20).

She was also on the 1,600-meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 4:07.23.

Second in the PAC

Hampton graduate Candace Coholich was a place-winner at the Presidents' Athletic Conference track and field championships, which took place April 28 at Grove City College.

Coholich, a junior at Grove City College, placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:19.31.

Winning PAC track title

North Hills High School graduates Matt Klein, Sam Dippold and Scott Fichter earned silver medals to lead Grove City College to its third consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference track and field championship title on April 28 at Grove City's Robert E. Thorn Field.

Klein, a senior, took second in the javelin with a throw of 172 feet, 10 inches.

Dippold, a senior, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.70.

Fichter, also a senior, was a member of the 400-meter relay team, which placed second with a time of 42.92. Fichter also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.51.

Meanwhile, other graduates of PG North area high schools also performed well at the meet.

Fox Chapel graduate Matt Rudzki posted a pair of second-place finishes. Rudzki, a junior at Washington & Jefferson College, placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:04.89. He also finished second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:53.00.

Pine-Richland graduate Bobby Regan, a sophomore at W&J, placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.86.

Knoch graduate Bob Rummel, a junior at Grove City, placed third in the long jump with a leap of 21- 3/4. Rummel also placed fourth in the triple jump (42-63/4) and in the 110-meter hurdles (15.68 seconds) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.23).

Hampton graduate Jesse Sundquist was a member of Grove City College's 1,600-meter relay team, which placed second with a time of 3:25.59.

North Hills graduate Megan Harding earned a pair of silver medals. Harding, a sophomore at Westminster, placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84. She was also a member of the 400-meter relay team that finished second with a time of 49.72.
