New schedules likely to appear first on Port Authority Web site
Monday, May 07, 2007

Riders are waiting to learn details about the most far-reaching changes in Port Authority history before they go into effect June 17.

Once finalized, information likely will be available first on the Web at www.portauthority.org. The agency is trying to establish separate, special files in "pdf" format to provide the new timetables. Don't confuse them with timetables for existing service that will continue through June 16.

Timetables won't appear in schedule racks before the first week of June.

To make them more distinguishable, the new timetables will be printed with black-and-white covers instead of the blue covers that the old ones have had for the past five years.

New timetables will be mailed to people who request them via a telephone hot line, 412-566-5335. Callers should provide a full name, address and ZIP code as well as identify the route so the appropriate schedule can be mailed as soon as it is available.

Riders looking for new schedules should look for specific routes. For instance, the multi-route schedule that began with the 11A McKnight Road will now begin with the 12A North Hills Shopper since the 11A is being eliminated.

No timetables will be available for 29 weekday routes because they are being eliminated. They are 1B, 1C, 5C, 11A, 11F, 13D, 25C, 25D, 28F, 28G, 31A, 36B, 41A, 50B, 65E, 73B, 79B, 83B, 88A, 91S, 501, CL, CV, DB, F, GR, JL, SW and U.

Riders must be certain to check timetables carefully, because a total of 104 routes will have reduced levels of service.

Considerable changes also will occur for Saturday, Sunday and holiday service.
