Voters Guide 2007: Allegheny County Common Pleas Court races

Nine Democrats and one Republican are running for judgeships in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.

They are vying for four positions on the bench.

Of the 10 candidates, nine have cross-filed.

The vacancies were created by two current judges who will be taking senior status (Robert C. Gallo and R. Stanton Wettick Jr.), by the death of Walter R. Little last June, and by the appointment of Cynthia Baldwin to the state Supreme Court.

The Allegheny County Democratic Committee has endorsed Jack McVay, Arnie Klein, Wrenna Leigh Watson and Michael E. McCarthy. The county Republican Party has endorsed the only Republican in the race, Joe Weinroth.

The Allegheny County Bar Association has rated the candidates as follows:

Highly Recommended: McVay. Recommended: Bubash, Klein, McCarthy, Novak, Watson, Williams. Not Recommended at this time: Bigley, Miskovich. Not Rated at this time: Weinroth.

There are currently 43 judicial seats in all four divisions of the court, including civil, criminal, family and orphans'.
