Kayak Pittsburgh -- which offers flat-water kayaking, canoeing and other water experiences on the Allegheny River and in North Park -- opens both of its locations on Saturday. It will operate on weekends until Memorial Day, when both locations will be open seven days a week for the summer.

The North Shore base (412-969-9090) is located along the waterfront walkway next to PNC Park. Weekend hours are 10 a.m. to dusk and starting after Memorial Day, will run 4 p.m. to dusk on weekdays. Here you can rent solo and tandem kayaks, canoes and hydrobikes. First hourly rates range from $14 for solo kayak and canoe, $15 for hydrobike and $20 for tandem kayak.

Headquarters in North Park (724-935-1968) is at the Boathouse on Pierce Mill Road along North Park Lake. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. everyday (but weekends only in May).

Prices the same as North Shore, but instead of hydrobikes, it offers rowboats for $12 an hour.
