Dr. Arleen L. Wheat, a supervisor of North Allegheny School District's special education program, was promoted to assistant superintendent of pupil services and special education last night.
The school board named Dr. Wheat to the post, effective July 1.
Dr. Wheat obtained her bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and master's from the University of Pittsburgh before earning her doctorate from Duquesne University.
She served as a special education teacher, inclusion specialist and supervisor of special education programs at Allegheny Intermediate Unit for 19 years. She later served as associate director of special education at Armstrong School District for six years.
Certified in special education and as a K-12 principal and supervisor of special education, Dr. Wheat has been serving North Allegheny as supervisor of special education since 2002.
