Penn-Trafford took control of the Class AAAA Section 2 baseball race by edging visiting Franklin Regional yesterday, 6-5.
Chris Rasky drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Panthers (7-3, 4-1).
Eric Anderson led the Warriors (9-1, 6-0) with a home run and three runs batted in.
Winning pitcher Ryan Zamiskie pitched a four-hitter.
Other top games
Jordan Janowski went 5 for 5 with four home runs and eight RBIs to push host Peters Township (10-2, 6-2) to a 15-8 victory against Class AAAA Section 3 foe Mt. Lebanon (4-8, 3-4). Peters Township hit seven home runs in the game.
Class AAA Section 1 leader Hampton (7-3, 5-0) outslugged visiting Mars (5-6, 2-3), 15-11. Jason Steen hit a grand slam for the Talbots and Marcus Magister added a three-run homer.
Host Central Catholic (7-4, 5-1) needed nine innings to hand Fox Chapel (6-1, 4-1) its first loss in Class AAAA Section 4, 5-4. Mike Murphy drove in the winning run with a single. Murphy collected three hits and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Dan Decaria pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
In a showdown in Class A Section 1, host California (11-1, 5-1) edged Carmichaels (6-3, 5-1), 7-6. Zack Jeney led California with four hits, including a three-run homer. Jeney drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Elmer Engle's four RBIs led host Albert Gallatin (5-3, 2-3) to an 8-6 victory against Hempfield (3-7, 1-5) in Class AAAA Section 2. Engle has 13 RBIs in the past three games.
Chris Weigold's three RBIs led Seton-LaSalle (8-1, 5-1) to a 5-4 triumph at South Fayette (3-4, 1-3) in Class AA Section 6.
Softball
Perry (5-1, 5-1) defeated Brashear (6-2, 5-2) for the second time in City League Section 1 with a 5-4 decision against the Bulls. Danielle Ufolla drove in four runs for the Commodores. Ufolla also got the save, pitching in relief for Korey Freywermuth.
Keystone Oaks (4-6, 4-5) upset West Allegheny (5-3, 4-2) in Class AAA Section 3, 10-8. Maria Walker and Kayla Debole drove in two runs each for the host Eagles. Emily Dempsey was the winning pitcher, striking out nine batters. Dempsey also hit a double.
