Carrick High School graduate Chris Doerschner is the ace of the pitching staff for the California University of Pennsylvania baseball team.

Doerschner, a senior right-hander who was a PSAC West second-team selection the past two years, is 6-1 with a 4.02 earned run average in seven games. In 40 innings of work, he has struck out 38 batters and walked only eight.

Doerschner had a 3-2 record and a 4.93 ERA as a freshman, a 5-4 record and a 2.91 ERA as a sophomore, and a 4-2 record and a 3.96 ERA as a junior. He has an 18-9 record in 32 career starts with 11 complete games and 198 strikeouts.

Hot bat at Wooster

Peters Township High School graduate Sean Karpen is the top hitter on The College of Wooster baseball team (27-1).

Karpen, a junior outfielder/designated hitter, has 27 hits in 62 at-bats, for a .435 average. He also has two doubles, three triples, 21 runs scored and 15 runs batted in. Karper has also been successful on 14 of 15 stolen base attempts.
