The Allegheny County Health Department is calling for all old phone books as part of a recycling campaign through May 31 at eight county drop-off sites.
Four sites with outside collection boxes are open 24 hours a day and accept both white and yellow pages.
Those sites are: McCandless Soccer Field parking lot on Grubbs Road, April 14-29; Ross Township Municipal Building, May 1-31; Forest Hills Swimming Pool parking lot off Braddock Road, May 1-13; and South Park parking lot near the ice skating rink on Corrigan Drive, May 15-31.
In addition, Recycle Management Corp., 73-A West Noblestown Road, Carnegie, will remain open during daylight hours seven days a week while Agents of Change Recycling, Route 8, Shaler, will remain open on April 28 and May 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pittsburgh Recycling Services, 50 Vespucius St., Hazelwood, will remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Construction Junction, 214 N. Lexington Ave., Point Breeze, remains open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The health department requests that only phone books be placed in collection bins.
Any business in Pittsburgh with more than 200 directories to recycle may call the Health Department's Recycling Office at 412-578-8390 to arrange a special pickup.
