Nobiz Like Shobiz, a strapping son of Albert the Great, won for the fourth time in six starts, earning $450,000 and boosting his earnings to $804,900 for owner Elizabeth Valando. Sent off as the 3-5 favorite in the field of six, Nobiz Like Shobiz covered the 11/8 miles in 1:49.46.

Long shot Tiago, a half-brother of 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo, rallied between horses in the home stretch to win the Santa Anita Derby in Arcadia, Calif. Mike Smith guided Tiago through an opening in the middle of the track and the colt blew past King of the Roxy to win by a half-length. Sam P. finished another 2 3/4 lengths back in third.
Cowtown Cat pulled away to edge Reporting For Duty and Bold Start in the Illinois Derby in Cicero, while favorite Cobalt Blue finished seventh in the nine-horse field in the Kentucky Derby prep.

Martina Hingis withdrew from the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C., because of a hip injury, the latest star to pull out of the tournament, which begins next week. Svetlana Kuznetsova, ranked No. 5, withdrew Friday because of a wrist injury. Earlier, top-ranked Justine Henin withdrew, followed by No. 2 Maria Sharapova and No. 3 Amelie Mauresmo.
Fifth-seeded Duquesne defeated Dayton, 4-3, in its final match to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference men's championships at Club 4Life in Monroeville. The Dukes were 3-1 in the tournament, defeating Fordham, 4-0, Saint Joseph's, 4-3, and Dayton and losing to St. Bonaventure, 4-0.
Duquesne's Michael Ortega was 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles, and Mark Maciuch was 3-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Hayley Wickenheiser beat Jessie Vetter in a shootout, and Charline Labonte stopped all three shots she faced in the tiebreaker to give Canada a 5-4 victory against the United States in the women's world championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The game was the opener in the three-team group winners round robin, with the top two teams advancing to the final Tuesday. The United States will face Finland today, and Canada will play the Finns tomorrow.

Jordan Herr hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning as Pitt (13-14, 7-4) defeated host Louisville (21-10, 6-3), 6-2, to earn a 2-1 series victory against the Cardinals.

David Beckham will miss his fourth consecutive game for Real Madrid with a sprained right knee ligament. Beckham trained with teammates yesterday but wasn't included in Madrid's 20-man squad for the Spanish league game against Osasuna today.

Joe Calzaghe stopped Peter Manfredo in the third round in Cardiff, Wales, to retain his WBO super middleweight title and improve to 43-0. It was Calzaghe's 20th successful defense since he won the title from Chris Eubank in 1997, equaling Bernard Hopkins and Larry Holmes and moving within five of Joe Louis' record. Manfredo fell to 26-4.
