Thomas Jefferson graduate Bill Arre was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball all-star team for the second consecutive year, and was also honored as Western Division athlete of the year.
Arre, a sophomore at Lock Haven University, was voted to the first team this year, after earning second-team honors as a freshman.
Arre, who was also selected to the 2007 Daktronics Division II All-East Region second team, led Lock Haven and the PSAC in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per game. He also led the team in rebounds, averaging 6.8 per game, which ranks ninth in the conference.
In just two seasons at LHU, Arre was able to surpass the 1,000-point career mark after hitting for double-figures in all 27 games this season. He led the Eagles in scoring during 20 of 27 games and scored 20 plus points in 16 games.
Bethel grad honored
Bethel Park graduate Brittany Thomas was selected female scholar-athlete of the month for February by the Presidents' Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Thomas, a senior swimmer at Westminster College, finished March by winning three individual titles at the PAC championship meet held last month at Grove City College.
She took home conference titles in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.
Her 60 points at the championship meet helped the Titans win their second consecutive PAC team title.
Academically, Thomas holds a 3.609 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as an elementary education major.
All-conference performance
Chartiers Valley graduate Lauren Revesz recently completed her first season as a member of the College of Saint Rose women's basketball team.
Revesz, a junior transfer who played her first two seasons at Ohio University, was named a second team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection. She started 21 of the 23 games she played in this season.
She averaged 15.0 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 81.0 percent (85 for 105) from the foul line.
Revesz was fifth in the league in scoring and tied for seventh in free throw percentage.
The Golden Knights (21-9) finished second in the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference standings and made their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament, where they fell to Holy Family of Pennsylvania, 78-65, in the first round.
Bethel grad outstanding in field
Bethel Park graduate Lauren Spegal was named Presidents' Athletic Conference women's field athlete of the week.
Spegal, a junior thrower at Bethany College, earned the honor after putting up a record-breaking performance at the Muskingum College track and field invitational March 24.
Spegal shattered her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 8 inches. Not only did that effort place her second in the event, it also surpassed her own mark, previously set in 2005, by 15 inches.
In addition, Spegal placed 10th out of 30 competitors in the discus with a throw of 106-2.
While this is the first track and field award in Spegal's career, it's the second PAC award of her career.
Also an outside hitter for the Bison volleyball team, she earned PAC player of the week once during last fall's volleyball season.
A three-time All-PAC second-team selection, Spegal ranks fifth in career kills at Bethany with 896.
