DESTINY AMBROSE
Bishop Canevin
Guard, 5-10, Sophomore
Her scoring and rebounding averages were down from her freshmen season, but Ambrose's value to the Crusaders went up as she led Bishop Canevin to the PIAA Class AA playoffs. She averaged 14 points, six rebounds and three assists per game despite playing part of the season with an ankle injury. "Destiny has improved her game overall," coach Tim Joyce said. "Last year, she was just a scorer [averaging 18 points per game], but she's become a really good passer. She's drawing defenses to her and she's hitting the open girl for baskets." She is a two-time all-section honoree who has led the Crusaders to a 40-14 record the past two seasons.
JORDAN ZUPPE

Hopewell

Guard, 5-7, Senior
Zuppe was at her best in the clutch in leading Hopewell to back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA titles. coach of Section 2 rival Montour. A Division I recruit of Indiana/Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW), Zuppe averaged 14.5 points per game and 4.4 assists. An Associated Press Class AAA All-State second-team choice, she averaged 1.9 steals in her career and shot 40.4 percent from behind the 3-point line (91 of 225) this year. She was also a very good free-throw shooter, making 214 of 294 attempts (72.8 percent) in her four-year career. She finished with an excellent 2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio in her career. Zuppe converted 243 3-pointers in 685 career attempts (35.5 percent).
JOYCE NOVACEK

Hopewell

Forward, 6-2, Senior
She teamed with her sister, Becky, to form an unstoppable inside tandem that resulted in two WPIAL and two state titles. An Associated Press Class AAA All-State first-team selection, Joyce averaged 13.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game this year. She blocked four shots in the 37-36 PIAA final victory last month against Villa Maria, including one that prevented a potential winning layup in the final two seconds. A Bucknell recruit, Novacek shot 57 percent from the floor (171 for 302) this season to finish with 1,173 career points and 681 rebounds. Hopewell was 63-5 in her junior and senior seasons with three of the losses against out-of-state opponents.
JORDAN BURKES

Montour

Guard/Forward, 6-0, Senior
A four-year starter who led the Spartans to the WPIAL Class AAA championship game twice in the past three seasons, Burkes averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game as a senior. She is a Seton Hill University recruit. During the regular season, Burkes shot 82 percent from the free-throw line, making 114 of 132 attempts. "Her accuracy at the line is like a good Division I men's player," coach Jack Burik said. "Jordan is a very versatile player who can play anywhere, one [point guard] through five [center]. She's [had] an outstanding season. She's definitely a strong player and her versatility is what she's all about." Burkes finished with 1,244 career points.
JULIE GEBHARD

Moon Area

Guard, 6-0, Senior
A recruit of Division I Niagara University, Gebhard averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds per game for the Tigers to finish with almost 1,200 career points. An Associated Press Class AAA All-State third-team selection, she led Moon to a 24-7 record. Four of the losses occurred against two-time state champion Hopewell, also a section rival of the Tigers. Gebhard is also a track and field standout, having qualified for the WPIAL championship meet in the 400-meter run. Gebhard scored 16 points with 15 rebounds during Moon's 69-47 rout of Sharon in the PIAA second round. The Tigers made it to the state quarterfinals every season during Gehard's four-year career.
