In this instance, charity will begin at the home of the Chartiers Valley Colts.
The 12th annual Hoops for the Cure high school all-star basketball game will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 30.
It is sponsored by the Nathan S. Arenson Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Tickets are $7 and proceeds will go to that fund.
The contest will feature two teams of senior boys: players from Section 4-AAA schools, which include Chartiers Valley, against a squad of teens from Class AAAA programs across the WPIAL.
Afterward, the Pittsburgh Steelers basketball team will tackle the Chartiers Valley alumni. The Steelers will sign autographs at halftime of their game.
Five of the 20 players competing in the first game are from the PG West region.
Two Moon Tigers -- 6-foot-1 guard Andy Dowdell and 6-7 center Chris Jeannot -- will dress for the Quad-A team. Their 4-AAA foes will include Chartiers Valley's Mike Sherry, a 6-1 guard; Brandon Fischbach, a 6-1 forward; and Brian Castello, a 6-2 forward.
The Quad-A team also will feature 6-3 guard Joe Berenato and 6-2 guard Chris Saltzman of Central Catholic; 6-0 guards Nate Rayburn of Bethel Park and Pat Heery of Seneca Valley; 6-1 guards John Masuga of North Allegheny and Dave McLean of Upper St. Clair; 6-4 forward Seth Eisner of Fox Chapel; and 6-6 center Andrew Devlin of Mt. Lebanon.
Their coaches will be Mike Mastroianni of Bethel Park, the WPIAL champion, and Danny Holzer of Upper St. Clair.
Dom DeCicco of Thomas Jefferson and Mike Mihalov of Elizabeth Forward will coach the 4-AAA squad.
Each will bring one of his players: Steve Swiech, a 6-9 Akron recruit from Elizabeth Forward, and DeCicco's son, Dom, a 6-3 Pitt football recruit.
Besides those two and the aforementioned Char Valley trio, the 4-AAA team will feature: 6-3 guard Erik Noone of Keystone Oaks; 5-11 guard Brandon Bradley of South Park; Lee Crumity of Steel Valley; E.J. Morascyzk of Trinity; and 6-3 guard Chris Giles of West Mifflin
