Book News: Mother, daughter to discuss projects at Lucky Lit Fest

Writer Jane Bernstein and her daughter, documentary filmmaker Charlotte Glynn, team up for the concluding program March 16 at the Lucky Lit Festival at the Greensburg campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

Bernstein, who teaches writing at Carnegie Mellon, is the author of "Loving Rachel," a memoir on her developmentally disabled daughter. Glynn made "Rachel Is," a film about her sister. The two will discuss their projects at 7 p.m. at the Coffeehouse at Village Hall.

The festival begins March 12 with poet and Detroit native Crystal Williams, author of "Kin" and "Lunatic," both from Michigan State University Press.

Also scheduled:

March 13: Jolene Siana, author of the 2005 memoir "Go Ask Ogre."

March 14: Buddy Nordan, author of such novels as "Wolf Whistle" and "Sharpshooter's Blues."

March 15: Novelist Philip Beard of Aspinwall, author of "Zoe" and "Lost in the Garden."

All events begin at 7 p.m., are free and held in the Coffeehouse. Details: 724-836-7741.

Readings

The Choice Cuts Reading Series will bring poets Christine Gelineau and Peter Oresick and nonfiction writer Neesha Navare to Lawrenceville's Slaughterhouse Gallery and Studios at 7:30 p.m. March 16.

Gelineau teaches at Binghamton University and is the author of "Remorseless Loyalty." Oresick is editor of the poetry anthology "For a Living" and the upcoming collection "Warhol-O-Rama."

Navare is a Chatham College graduate now studying at the University of Missouri.

The Pittsburgh Contemporary Writers Series brings Irish novelist Patrick McCabe ("The Butcher Boy") to the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, Oakland, at 8:30 p.m. March 22.

Nominated twice for Great Britain's Man Booker Literary Prize, McCabe has just published his eighth novel, "Winterwood."

He is the William Block Sr. Writer, a program of the University of Pittsburgh's English department.

Calling all poets

Pittsburgh writers Michael Wurster and Judith R. Robinson are soliciting poems for their upcoming anthology, "Along These Rivers: Poetry and Photography From Pittsburgh."

The book is scheduled for publication in time for the city's 250th anniversary next year.

The limit is a maximum of four poems per submission on any subject. Send two copies of each along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
