New Business/New Offices

Ripple Effects Interactive, a Web and online marketing firm, moved to 2840 Liberty Ave., Suite 100, Strip District.

Contracts

Burns & Scalo Roofing has a roofing contract award for Valspar. The project includes retrofit of 32,400 square feet of Carlisle fully adhered roofing system.

Steelcoast Creative was selected by Glenshaw Glass for the development of a new corporate Web site.

Union Switch & Signal Inc. won a contract from Ansaldo Trasporti Sistemi Ferroviari S.p.A. to provide all of the automatic train protection, automatic train operation and automatic train supervision functions and capabilities for the Thessaloniki Metro system. This project will be Union Switch's fifth steel wheel, driverless, automatic train control system installed worldwide.

PWCampbell secured four contracts for design/build services for the following financial institutions: CODE Credit Union, new branch office in Englewood, Ohio; First Commonwealth Bank, branch fit-out in Center; UFirst Federal Credit Union, new main office in Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and TriBoro Federal Credit Union, new branch office, in McMurray.

Awards/Honors

Attorney Janet Burkardt of the Law Offices of Ira Weiss was named a 2006 Super Lawyer Rising Star. She has been a principal attorney with the firm since 2000. She represents clients in the municipal and educational sectors, focusing on higher-profile tax collection matters, zoning and municipal issues, and real estate tax assessment cases.

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC said Jay K. Kolls, M.D., was awarded the inaugural UPMC Niels K. Jerne endowed chair in pediatrics, named in honor of the Nobel laureate immunologist. Dr. Kolls is a professor of pediatrics and immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Allergy and Immunology and of the Laboratory of Lung Immunology and Host Defense at Children's.

The Pennsylvania Library Association presented its Trustee of the Year award to Carol Robinson, vice chair of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The award recognizes a trustee from library systems across the state for providing leadership, advocacy and support for the public library system. At Carnegie Library, she's been on the executive committee, founded the development committee, initiated alternative revenue projects, and worked on the branch revitalization effort. She joined the library as a volunteer and has been a trustee for six years.

Roy Nicolaides, professor and head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, won the first Alexander M. Knaster professorship, established for the head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, recognizing departmental leadership in developing and sustaining traditional as well as emerging disciplines within mathematical sciences. These include internationally recognized education and research programs in applied analysis, computational finance, computational mathematics and scientific computing, continuum mechanics, discrete mathematics and operations research, logic and stochastic analysis.

Parente Randolph said Paul Scherrah, a senior accountant in the Pittsburgh office, has completed the CPA examination and earned a license to practice as a certified public accountant in Pennsylvania.
