Designers at work on Show House
Saturday, February 24, 2007

The 18th Designers Show House will be wired and wonderful, says its organizer, the Junior League of Pittsburgh.

"And this year all the flat screen TVs are going to work," said Kimberly Kisner, chair of the spring event. "The house is being wired for it."

The house is a three-story Italian Renaissance-style home at 1265 Beechwood Blvd., Squirrel Hill. Built in 1907 and nearly gutted now, it will be open to people who like "before" pictures from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 30 to April 1 for Sneak-A-Peek Weekend Tours. Tickets are $5.

After that, 25 firms will transform it into "Elegance on Beechwood," the Junior League's major fund-raiser.

Visitors to the 17-room house that was once the home of Pirate Bob Friend will get a jolt out of more than the electronics, of course, because some of the area's best and brightest designers will be participating, including teams from furniture retailers Ethan Allen, Today's Home, Perlora and Weisshouse.

Showcase Kitchen and Bath will be doing the master bath and New Angle Design will decorate the kitchen and butler's pantry. Other areas will be decorated by Outside Inspirations, Angela Nolfi & Co., Richard Lawrence, Interiors by Decorating Den, Mackins-Morton & Associates, Wellie Interiors, New Angle Design, Heritage Industries, Raymond Dortenzo Design Associates, DeMarchi Design and Associates, Patrick Maloney Designs, Z Studio of Decorative Finishes, Associated Interiors, The Ornamental Touch, Drew Designs, The Silken Scissor, Jennifer's Draperies, Cynthia Rosky Designs, Molto Bella Ceramica, and George Girty Landscape Design. The principal contractor will be Zambano & Sons.

The show house's big reveal will be April 27 during the Glitz, Glamour and Grace gala, a combination cocktail party and house tour. The evening's celebrity guest will be Andrew Dan-Jumbo of TLC's "While You Were Out" and "Trading Spaces." Then the house will be open for tours until May 13.

Gala tickets are $300 for dinner, dessert and a reception with Mr. Dan-Jumbo, $125 for dinner and dessert and $60 for dessert. Show house tickets are $15 before April 20, $20 after. Tickets, information: 412-422-8580 or www.jlpgh.org.

Correction/Clarification: (Published Feb. 28, 2007) This story as originally published Feb. 24, 2007 about the 2007 Junior League Show House misidentified two designers' roles. New Angle Design will decorate the kitchen and butler's pantry. Showcase Kitchen and Bath will do the master bath.
