The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:

'The Astronaut Farmer'

Rated: PG.

Suitable for: Tweens and older.

What you should know: Billy Bob Thornton plays a Texas rancher named Charles Farmer who has never abandoned his dreams of becoming an astronaut. He builds a rocket in his barn and plans to launch it, with the help of his family.

Language: About a dozen of the mildest three- or four-letter words are used.

Sexual situations and nudity: A married couple kiss, a tepid joke is made about sex.

Violence/scary situations: A brick is thrown through a window out of anger. A main character is injured and hospitalized, and an elderly one dies and is buried. There is also a reference to a long-ago suicide.

Drug or alcohol use: Adults drink beer.


'Amazing Grace'

Rated: PG.

Suitable for: Children over 10 and adults.

What you should know: Ioan Gruffudd stars as William Wilberforce, a leader of the British abolition movement. The movie follows his struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in late 18th-century England. Although he meets opposition from some members of Parliament, a friend and minister (Albert Finney) offers support.

Language: Mild vulgarities.

Sexual situations and nudity: None.

Violence/scary situations: Brutal treatment of animals and people forced into slavery.

Drug or alcohol use: None.
