Fox Chapel Area High School has made a significant contribution to the Duquesne University wrestling program.
No they didn't take up a collection on Field Club Road and make a financial donation, but the school does have four of its alumni on the Dukes roster -- Tim Frank, Scott Black, James Sellers and Brett Skonieczny.
Frank is a 197-pound senior who has a 17-14 record. The son of Fox Chapel coach Ron Frank, he is a four-year starter.
Black, a 174-pound sophomore, has a 2-9 record. Sellers, a freshman heavyweight, has a 2-9 record and Skonieczny, another freshman, is unbeaten in two matches at 125 pounds.
Relay race contributor
Seneca Valley graduate Drew Snyder was a member of two relay teams that won titles at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships last weekend at Grove City College.
Snyder, a sophomore at Grove City, swam the third leg of the 200 freestyle relay, which posted a time of 1:23.67. He swam the second leg of the 800 freestyle, in which the Wolverines set conference and pool records with a time of 6:55.76.
She's PAC's top swimmer
Mt. Lebanon graduate Kaitlyn Orstein collected her third consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Year award at the PAC championship meet, which took place at Grove City College last weekend.
Orstein, a junior at Washington & Jefferson College, won three events individually and was a member of four victorious relay teams.
Orstein ended the three-day event with a record-breaking performance in the 200 breaststroke as she set pool, invitational and conference records during her first-place finish in a time of 2:21.34. She also won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.66, and the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:28.98. Her time automatically qualified her for the NCAA championships in all three events.
Orstein was also a member of four title-winning relay teams -- 200 freestyle (1:38.64), 400 freestyle (3:37.85), 800 freestyle (7:59.07), and 200 medley relay (1:49.56).
Other PAC swim results
Also at the PAC swimming championships, Bethel Park graduate Brittany Thomas captured titles in three events. Thomas, a senior at Westminster College, won the 1,650-meter freestyle (with a time of 18:24.43), the 1,000 freestyle (10:54.60) and the 500 freestyle (5:18.44).
South Park graduate Pat Smith won the 200 backstroke. Smith, a senior at Westminster College, set PAC and school records with a time of 1:53.57.
South Fayette graduate Caitlin McManus won the 100 breaststroke at the PAC meet. McManus, a sophomore at Westminster College, won with a time of 1:09.44. She also finished second in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:29.64.
Bethel Park graduate Daniel Mancuso won the PAC title in the 200 butterfly for the second straight year. Mancuso, a sophomore at Washington & Jefferson College, set a school record with his time of 1:57.00. He also placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.56.
South Fayette graduate Luke Morgan set a pair of Washington & Jefferson school records at the same meet. Morgan finished third in both diving events, but set school records in both. He had a score of 371.40 in the 1-meter diving and a score of 346.60 in the 3-meter diving.
A thrill for Hill
Freedom Area graduate Matt Hill recorded his 100th victory for the Edinboro University wrestling team in a match Feb. 9 against Cleveland State.
Hill, a 157-pound senior who is No. 10 in the NCAA Division I rankings, posted a 14-7 win over Cleveland State's Victer Crenshaw. Hill has a 100-37 career record.
