The "Pitts-Burrrrrgh Drowned Hogs" event at the 18th Street boat ramp is not just a moment of mid-winter craziness. It's also a fund raiser for Circle C Youth and Family Services.

Here's how the event works: if swimmers frolic in the water, spring's arrival is near; if they scream and run out, winter will remain for six more weeks. On this day, despite the snow and 35-degree water temperature, a number of participants splashed and swam in the water for more than a minute, chanting, "Spring is here."
