The Moon Area School District will begin paying $50 for a Moon Community Access Television employee to televise its monthly meeting under an agreement approved last Thursday by school directors.
The deal affords the school district these options: cover the meetings with a volunteer using an MCA camera at no cost; pay $50 for one MCA employee to operate one camera; pay $150 to use the production trailer and one staff member with volunteers operating cameras; pay $450 for the production trailer and four staff members, one each to run three cameras and one to work in the trailer.
At this point, the board prefers the $50 option.
The school district will continue to be responsible for audio production (microphones). School board meetings are rebroadcast five to seven times a month.
As part of their television courses, students can use the community-access studios for school-related projects. Executive Director Jim Koepfinger said this agreement contains a "hold harmless" provision that makes the school district responsible if anything happens to a student at community access studios. The same would apply for a television employee on school grounds.
Moon Community Access will negotiate similar agreements with Moon's remaining educational institutions: Robert Morris University, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School and Rhema Christian School.
The agreement was approved Jan. 2 by supervisors.
