MEGAN O'KEEFE
SCHOOL: Seton-LaSalle.
WHO IS SHE? A 5-foot-10 guard/forward for the girls' basketball team.
PAST WEEK: O'Keefe, a senior, scored 15 points Monday in a 66-16 non-section victory at Brashear and 25 Thursday in a 65-45 triumph at South Park, a Section 3-AA rival. O'Keefe is averaging 17.4 points per game for the Rebels (16-2, 7-0), the Post-Gazette's top-ranked Class AA WPIAL team.
CAREER: O'Keefe is a four-year starter and has scored 1,383 points. Seton-LaSalle, over that time, is 76-22, 41-8 in section. A victory tonight at Fort Cherry would clinch a fourth consecutive playoff berth.
SUCCESS IS RELATIVE: Basketball is an O'Keefe family tradition. Megan's father, Bernie, was a star at Baldwin and played at Duquesne University. Bernie's brother, Rege, was a standout at Baldwin and Yale University. "I've listened to a lot of basketball talk," Megan said. "I believe most of it."
OTHER ACTIVITIES: Basketball isn't the only activity in which O'Keefe is a key performer. She is an accomplished pianist. "We were at a team function and she played," Fisher said. "She's phenomenal."She also competed in cross country the past four years, qualifying for the PIAA championships as a freshman and sophomore.
FUTURE: O'Keefe has a 4.8 grade point average and has a chance to be the class valedictorian. Although some Division I and II programs have contacted her, she wants to focus on academics in college and is considering Division III programs for the most part.

SCHOOL: Shady Side Academy.
WHO IS HE? A junior and one of the top swimmers in Western Pennsylvania.
MULTITASKING: In the latest WPIAL swimming honor roll, Scheid's name was seemingly everywhere. In Class AA, he is ranked No. 1 in the 50 freestyle (22.37), the 100 freestyle (48.41), the 200 freestyle (1:46.57), the 500 freestyle (4:48.28) and is second in the 200 individual medley (2:01.94). He is also third in the 100 backstroke (56.11).
SOLID LINEAGE: If the Scheid surname sounds familiar, it should. Trevor's older brother, Tyler, was a WPIAL champion at Shady Side and is a sophomore on Yale's swim team. When Trevor was a freshman, Tyler was a senior at Shady Side and that season propelled Trevor's career. "He pushed me so much that year," Trevor said. "To have someone that close to me, who urged me to get better every day, has been a big benefit to me."
LIKE A FISH ... : Scheid participated in Little League baseball and youth soccer before getting turned on to swimming at the Hillcrest Country Club. "I took to it right away," he said. "After I had an interest in swimming, I forgot about those other sports."
THE FUTURE: A Lower Burrell resident, Scheid is a high honor roll student. His mixture of athleticism and academics has drawn interest from schools such as Yale, Brown and Cornell.
