Point Park drops road game, 89-66

Poor shooting in the second half yesterday proved costly to the Point Park University men's team. The Pioneers made just 8 of 33 field-goal attempts (24.2 percent) in the final 20 minutes and dropped an 89-66 decision at Notre Dame College's Murphy Gymnasium in South Euclid, Ohio.

It was the first loss in 21 games for Point Park, which entered the contest ranked No. 3 in NAIA Division II. The Pioneers also dropped to 3-1 in the American Mideast Conference's North Division. Notre Dame is 12-9, 4-0.

Chivas Whipple scored 21 points to lead Point Park, which trailed, 38-37, at the half. Ryne Liggins added 20, but the Pioneers were just 5 of 21 from 3-point range.

West Virginia (12-7, 4-3) won its fourth in a row with a 59-45 victory against Villanova (7-12, 1-5) in Big East action. ... Sugeiry Monsac had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Robert Morris (11-5, 5-1 NEC) topped visiting Mount St. Mary's, 64-52. ... Erica Bilski scored 21 points as Chatham (5-11) defeated Hood (1-13), 64-51, for the first time in 20 meetings. Chatham had not beaten Hood since March 1, 1997. ... California (11-5, 1-1 PSAC) outscored Lock Haven (8-9, 1-2), 40-32, in the second half to secure a 67-55 home win. ...
