Georgetown scores first 10 points in win

Jonathan Wallace scored a career-high 21 points and freshman forward DaJuan Summers added 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Georgetown to an easy 74-58 victory against Seton Hall last night at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.

Georgetown (13-5, 3-2 Big East) scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back, utilizing a significant size advantage to maintain control of the game. While the Hoyas' starting lineup featured three players over 6-foot-9, Seton Hall started only one player standing 6-7.

Georgetown dominated the glass, grabbing 39 rebounds compared to just 11 for Seton Hall (11-7, 3-3), which was paced by Brian Laing's 19 points.

Center Roy Hibbert, who had 10 points, started the game with a power move score, followed by consecutive 3-pointers from Summers and Jessie Sapp, who had 12 points. Summers added two free throws to give the Hoyas the 10-0 lead just 2:10 into the contest.

Seton Hall managed to cut the lead to 24-16 with 6:54 left on a driving basket from Laing, who had 13 points in the first half.

Women's Top 25

Crystal Langhorne had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Laura Harper scored 21, and No. 3 Maryland bounced back from its first loss of the season by cruising past visiting Virginia (12-6, 2-2), 95-68, in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Kristi Toliver scored 20 points and Marissa Coleman added 16 for the Terrapins (19-1, 3-1).

District men

Point Park ran its record to 20-0 with a 91-72 victory against host Myers (3-16). Chivas Whipple had 22 points and seven rebounds for Point Park, which trailed at halftime, 44-41. Denny DiPasquale and Brad Fusco added 15 points apiece and Gavin Prosser had 14 points and eight assists. ... Jermaine Ferguson had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Geneva (9-10, 1-2) defeated visiting Houghton (7-9, 0-4), 77-66, in an American Mideast Conference North Division contest. Ferguson made 8 of 12 shots from the field. Greg McDivitt chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds. ... Waynesburg (8-7) snapped a three-game losing streak with an 88-70 win against Franciscan-Steubenville (2-13). Beau Wilson had a team-high 21 points for Waynesburg. ... Carnegie Mellon (9-5, 2-2) fell behind quickly and lost to host Chicago (12-3, 3-1), 100-69, in the University Athletic Association. Ryan Einwag had 20 points for the Tartans.

District women

Phylicia Swath had 18 points and 11 rebounds as visiting Point Park (7-9) routed Myers (0-15), 76-43.
