Mt. Lebanon graduate Kaitlyn Orstein is ranked among the top three swimmers in five events in the NCAA Division III Women's rankings.
Orstein, a junior at Washington & Jefferson College and a three-time national champion, has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimmer/Diver of the Week three times, upping her career conference total to 10 such wards.
Orstein is ranked first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.76), first in the 400 individual medley (4:27.61), second in the 200 breastroke (2:20.40), second in 200 individual medley (2:05.39), and third in the 50 freestyle (23.93).
Orstein, the daughter of W&J coach Mike Orstein, has set six pool records this season and has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III championships in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
The 2007 NCAA championships are scheduled for March 8-10 at the University of Houston.
Washington & Jefferson's swimming and diving team is ranked No. 17 by Collegeswimming.com.
The Presidents garnered 130 points in the poll, which is led by Emory University (164 points).
W&J diver excels
South Fayette graduate Luke Morgan ranks third in both men's diving events in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Morgan, a freshman at Washington & Jefferson College, posted a score of 212.43 in 1-meter diving during a meet against Mount Union.
He also had a score of 186 in 3-meter diving in a quad-conference meet earlier in the season.
Good times for South Park grad
South Park High School graduate Pat Smith has the 11th fastest time among NCAA Division III men's swimmers in the 100 backstroke with a 52.42-second clocking.
Smith, a Westminster College senior, has posted the fastest times in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in the 100 and 200 backstroke.
His time in the 200 backstroke is 1:56.15.
