Freedom Area graduate Matt Hill is closing in on the 100-win plateau at Edinboro University.
Hill, a 149-pound senior who is ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division I with an 8-1 record, is 91-36 since moving into the starting lineup as a freshman.
Hill's only loss of the season came in the finals of the Southern Scuffle, which took place at North Carolina-Greensboro. He dropped a 4-1 decision to Lock Haven's Seth Martin, an opponent whom Hill defeated, 6-1, earlier in the season.
Hill had a 4-1 record in the tournament, in which Edinboro placed fourth.
W&J diver excels
South Fayette graduate Luke Morgan ranks third in both men's diving events in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Morgan, a freshman at Washington & Jefferson College, posted a score of 212.43 in 1-meter diving during a meet against Mount Union.
He also had a score of 186 in 3-meter diving in a quad-conference meet.
Starting as a freshman
Ambridge Area graduate Chris Dempsey has become a starter on the Pitt-Johnstown wrestling team in his freshman year.
Dempsey placed third in the heavyweight division at the West Virginia Open. He also posted three victories for the Mountain Cats at the National Duals.
PAC's top wrestler
Pete Elers, a Greater Latrobe High School graduate, has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Elers, a 157-pound junior at Washington & Jefferson College, was a perfect 3-0 for W&J at the Gettysburg Duals in Gettysburg, Pa., on Saturday.
He helped the Presidents post a 2-0-1 mark at the event with wins over PAC rival Waynesburg (39-9) and Washington and Lee (28-15) along with a 21-21 tie against host Gettysburg.
Elers posted a 4-0 blanking of Waynesburg's Jake Benczo, pinned James Stevenson of Gettysburg in 1:42, and recorded a 2-0 decision against Anthony Boniello of W&L.
