The Robert Morris women nearly rallied from a 16-point deficit with 7:37 left but came up short against Long Island, 61-55, in a Northeast Conference game yesterday at the Wellness Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Colonials (10-5, 4-1) had cut it to four points but Long Island's Mikaelar Whippy hit a 3-pointer with 34 seconds remaining to seal the victory. It was the fifth win in a row for Long Island (12-5, 5-1).
Sugeiry Monsac had 20 points and seven rebounds for Robert Morris, which converted 3 of 20 3-pointers. Psyche Butler added 10 points and six rebounds.
Whippy finished with 21 points and seven rebounds. She made 4 of 6 3-pointers and 7 of 9 free throws. Sara Oblak chipped in with 17 points.
Robert Morris had 15 turnovers; Long Island 19. The Colonials made 22 of 60 field goals, 8 of 12 free throws and grabbed 31 rebounds. Long Island converted 22 of 43 field goals, including 6 of 10 3-pointers, 11 of 16 free throws and finished with 32 rebounds -- 26 on the defensive side.

No. 11-ranked Glenville State (13-2) raced past visiting Pitt-Johnstown (10-4) down the stretch for an 89-78 victory in the West Virginia Conference. Lindsay Cale had 27 points for Pitt-Johnstown.

Host Lycoming (8-7) snapped Carnegie Mellon's four-game win streak with a 66-65 victory in a non-conference game. Carnegie Mellon (9-4) could not get a shot off in the final 5.6 seconds. Ryan Einway led the Tartans with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting. ... Craig Hallman had 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting as host Grove City (7-8) defeated Penn State Beaver (6-8), 68-58. Shawn Carr added 14 points and eight rebounds as Grove City converted 25 of 52 field goals, but only 4 of 17 3-pointers. Joe Daransky had a game-high 24 points for PS Beaver, which went 1 for 3 from the free-throw line while Grove City went 14 of 22. This was the first meeting between the schools. ... Zack Kostorick had 20 points and seven rebounds and Stacy Grady chipped in with 18 points and six rebounds as La Roche (5-10, 3-5) edged visiting Pitt-Greensburg (2-13, 2-6), 87-86, in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Tim Gustin had a game-high 24 points off the bench for Pitt-Greensburg, which also got 21 points from Rashad Davison. ... Chris Gilliam had 16 points as Pitt-Johnstown (11-5) rolled past Penn State New Kensington (3-9), 72-57. Mike Fisher had a game-high 17 points for PS New Kensington.
