Three Central Catholic graduates have been chosen to play in the eighth annual College Hockey East all-star game Saturday at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont.

Pitt forward Christopher Bruce and Robert Morris forward Casey Schoub will play for the North Division, while Saint Vincent forward Matt Ward is a member of the South Division team. All three are Central Catholic grads.

Schoub will be joined on the North Division team by Robert Morris teammate Derek Lutterman, a forward who graduated from Greater Latrobe.

Also on the South Division team are: California University goalie Tim Johnson (Serra Catholic) and Indiana University defenseman Mike Wasilchak (Kiski Area).

A 3 p.m. skills competition involving players from both squads will take place prior to the 4: 30 p.m. game.

Hempfield grad honored

Hempfield Area High School graduate Emilee Ackerman was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South player of the week.

Ackerman, a freshman forward at Westminster College, has the Titans women's basketball team (8-3, 1-0 PAC) on a hot streak, winning eight of its last nine games including wins over Concordia (Wis.), 67-64, and Ursuline, 59-49, at the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout Dec. 18-19.

Ackerman scored a team-high 19 points against Ursuline and a season-high 26 points against Corncordia and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. She also shot an impressive 69.2 percent from 3-point range.
