3. Oh captain, my captain

When Steve Yzerman retired following the 2005-06 season, he ended his tenure of 19 consecutive campaigns as captain of the Red Wings, the longest in NHL history. He's in no danger of losing that distinction any time soon. Only one current captain, Colorado's Joe Sakic, has had the "C" on his sweater for even more than 10 seasons. 5. The fan's hat trick

Alexander Ovechkin's hat trick in a 3-2 overtime win Dec. 15 in Atlanta is probably still fresh in the minds of Ilya Kovalchuk and the rival Thrashers.
