m2006 was the year of people apologizing for their true nature coming to the surface. Mel Gibson apologized for anti-semitic remarks. Michael Richards apologized for racist slurs. Mark Foley apologized for sending inappropriate emails to underage congressional pages. It seems the only one not apologizing for his abhorrent behavior was the president.

mOne reader noted that when I was on vacation the paper ran cartoons less critical of the White House. He was happy not to have to look at my “bat-eared caricature of Bush” and asked if I might not be convinced to stay on vacation permanently.

mI would be the first to admit that Bush’s failed leadership and misguided and tragic war have encouraged my true nature to come to the surface. Despite this reader’s obvious disappointment in my cartoons, I have no plans to apologize.
