Boys' Basketball Roundup: Pryor, Jeannette stopped
Greensburg Salem wins thriller, 58-50
Friday, December 29, 2006

Nothing says big-time atmosphere more than gate-crashing fans.

That was the case last night when Greensburg Salem (9-0), the Post-Gazette's No. 2-ranked team in WPIAL Class AAA, pulled out a 58-50 win against Class AA No. 2 Jeannette (2-3) at a Greensburg Salem tournament game before an overflow crowd.

"There were people actually sneaking in the basement door," Greensburg Salem coach Paul Sapotichne said.

"They turned a couple hundred people away."

The unlucky missed a good one, as Paul Matthews scored 22 points to lead the Golden Lions to victory.

Jeannette standout junior Terrelle Pryor was limited to seven points as Greensburg Salem employed a box-and-one defense with the Lions' Alex Walton and Mark DeMatteo taking turns guarding Pryor. Davonte Shannon led Jeannette with 21 points.

"Jeannette has some very good players," Sapotichne said. "But they only have one Terrelle Pryor, and that is who we had to pay the most attention to."
