This New Year's Eve, things are getting ugly.

ABC Family will run an all-day marathon of ABC's hit show "Ugly Betty," starring America Ferrera as the intelligent and optimistic assistant of the head of Mode fashion magazine.

The marathon will help kick off ABC's "Be Ugly '07" campaign, which asks Americans to emulate the bespectacled heroine and "be real, be smart, be passionate and be true to yourself" in the coming year.

The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with Betty landing the coveted job at Mode and meeting her womanizing boss Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) for the first time. Through the next 11 hours, fans can watch Betty find her groove at work, sometimes at the expense of her family's needs, reconcile with her boyfriend Walter (Kevin Sussman) and deal with a trio of workplace backstabbers: Wilhelmina, Marc and Amanda (Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie and Becki Newton). The final episode of the marathon begins at 7 p.m., ending with Betty torn between Walter and her co-worker Henry (Christopher Gorham). (Zap2it.com)

'Brothers' star gets 'Life'

"Band of Brothers" star Damian Lewis is getting a "Life" at NBC.

The British actor has signed to play the lead role in a drama pilot at the network about a cop who rejoins the force after having been wrongly imprisoned for several years. Sarah Shahi ("The L Word") has also joined the show as his partner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Elsewhere, Benjamin King has joined David E. Kelley's Fox pilot "The Wedding Planners," and Rachael Carpani will co-star with Janeane Garofalo in an untitled legal drama at CBS.

"Life" comes from writer Rand Ravich ("The Astronaut's Wife") and director David Semel ("House," "Six Degrees"). It will be the first regular series for Lewis on American TV.

Lewis is best known for playing Maj. Richard Winters in HBO's "Band of Brothers," for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination. His credits also include "The Forsyte Saga," "Friends and Crocodiles" and the feature films "An Unfinished Life" and "Stormbreaker."

At Fox, meanwhile, King ("Saving Jessica Lynch") will play the husband of Teri Polo's character in "The Wedding Planners," about three sisters (Polo, Sarah Jones and KaDee Strickland) who run a wedding business. Australian actress Carpani ("McLeod's Daughters") will play a public defender in the CBS drama from writer Barry Schindel ("Numb3rs"). (Zap2it.com)
